Welcome new members!
(06/09/09) A big welcome to all the newcomers to Yoshitaka who came to the beginner class yesterday - we hope you had fun and enjoyed karate! It's not too late to come and try out Shotokan Karate with us - we welcome newcomers all year round - just get in touch or come to any class and join in or come and watch!
The Saturday advanced youth class saw a fast paced recap session on kihon (basics) with Sensei Davies, then the group split between the 3 Sensei's, with the higher grades starting to learn Enpi kata with Sensei Davies, the middle kyu grades taking on Heian Godan - which was for some a chance to polish up the kata and for others a opportunity to learn a new kata, and Sensei Camillini ran through Heian Nidan with the lower kyu grades.
Welcome back!
(04/09/09) We hope you all had a nice summer break! Wednesday's session saw the return to karate after the summer and both classes recapped where we left off in late July. At friday's advanced kata session we went over 3 Sentei katas; Jion, Kanku Dai and Enpi to refresh the black and brown belt's memory after the break. Sensei then introduced Bassai Sho, which was new for some and a welcome reminder for others. Training as usual for the junior members of the club tomorrow.
Yoshitaka Summer Break.
(24/07/09) The last training session for the summer break will be saturday 25th July, and training will resume same times, same place on Wednesday 2nd September, 2009. Have a wonderful, restful holiday and see you in 5 weeks! Any questions drop us a line on the email! swanseakarate (at) yahoo.co.uk (please replace (at) with @).
Have fun!

Yoshitaka under 16 Kata Competition 2009 - Results.
(19/05/09) The first USKW Youth Kata Competition was held on Sunday 19th May, 2009. The Competition was a great success and for many karate-ka it was their first taste of competition. The morning commenced with the first category – under 10 years 10th to 7th Kyu – being first on the tatami. After impressive displays of Taekyoku Shodan, Heian Shodan and Heian Nidan. It was Tivonge and Dominic who placed 3rd with Lewis and Elisha making it through to the final that was held after all the category heats. Next came the 6th to 4th Kyu under 10 years category, with Ellie and Freddie putting in solid performances to come joint 3rd and Mahir and Surya doing exceptionally well to get through to the final. The third category saw performances of Bassai Dai, Tekki Shodan and Heian Katas. Luke’s solid performance of Tekki Shodan earned him 3rd place as did Steffan’s rendition of Heian katas. It was Sadek’s Bassai Dai and Gareth’s Heian that saw them both making the final. The last kata saw many Sentei Kata like Jion, Enpi and Kanku Dai, and we also saw some Yūdansha kata including Kanku Sho and Gankaku. Daniel’s Enpi saw him place 3rd, as did Harry’s Kanku Dai. It was George’s Kanku Sho and Liam’s Gankaku that got them both to the final. Once all of the heats were complete the finals were staged. First up onto the tatami was Elisha and Lewis. It was Lewis who took the gold with a very spirited performance. Next up was Mahir and Surya who both did very well performing two very good kata, however it was Mahir who took gold. The next final saw Sadek’s Bassai Dai just edge out Gareth’s kata. The judges gave gold to Sadek. The last final saw Liam perform a splendid Gankaku and George Kanku Sho. Both kata’s were very difficult kata’s to perform however both Liam and George did a fantastic job. However, Liam won 2 flags to 1 to take gold. Well done to all who competed as everyone preformed really well making it very difficult for the referee and two judges to decide the victor. The next USKW competition will be held in the Winter, however over the Summer there will be opportunities to enter external competitions and Patrizio will let you know about them.
